...paper cloth and Spirit Figure...

Joyful Wall Hanging

I've discovered the joy of paper cloth....
I don't know if I'm doing it correctly but I sure am having fun doing...I enjoy the process, I find it very freeing and meditative. This little Spirit Figure has a door that opens on her cape that say's, "Oh peaceful heart stay with me." And the Elfen script at the top says, peace, joy, bliss...The beads are yellow turquoise, turquoise, and amethyst with crystals attaching her mask.

Being the insecure artists that I am I'm almost afraid to ask what you think?
I have art hop at a new, to me, gallery in February...should I introduce her to the public...or just enjoy the process and keep her home?

Oh, this is sooooo cool! I love the way that looks. I am so intimidated by cloth!! Paper, no problem, but add anything that might have to be sewn and I just don't know... So glad you found my blog!!! Hugs, Silke

I think I love the colors, the textures, the playfulness, and the 3-Dness.

Oh my goodness, yes, let her be seen. She's wonderful!

Is the art hop local? If so, I'd love to attend your show.

What a great wall hanging. I find that there really is no "right" or "wrong" way to make it. As long as it works for you then it is the right way.

Thank you for the encouraging words...I like her too.
The art hop opening is in Fresno at Art by Hand...@ 732 N. Van Ness...I may have to be in Santa Clara that day so I may not be there...I will know by Tuesday.

Oh Julie, I love her!!!!! I would definitely show her off.

Paper cloth is on my list of things to work with this year, too. It's nice to see that you've tried it and enjoyed it. Your piece turned out so well, I can't wait to try it out for myself, too! I love how you embellished your piece. Very, very nice!

Love and hugs,
xo

Angela...thanks for the encouraging words...It's always a bit difficult to unveil a new work...we put so much of ourselves into them...it's almost the same as asking, 'do you like me?'
Yes, play with the paper cloth process it is fun, a bit messy and sticky...a lot like being back in grade school...flinging the glue, paper and paint!
hug, hug
ps...hope you enjoyed your hibernation..and glad you're back!

Julie, I really like the new wall-hanging and, like others who have commented, think she is certainly worthy of being shown at any art hop. I think there is no right or wrong with paper cloth, but I haven't done much with it as yet myself. It does appeal to me, too, as does exploring the whole DIY fabric realm that Sheila sent us the links for. I've been thinking of that avenue for quite some time now. It will be fun to see more fabric paper figures--maybe for the "Small Wonders" show?

Your work is wonderful. We have a chinese calender that was given to us last year. You know the sort looks like rolled bamboo with a painting on it, but is actually cleverly folded paper. We just pained it white in preparation for reuse. Well this post has inspired me. I will be back to visit again.

Hi Julie,

I think this is a beautiful piece in all respects. The fabric paper looks amazing and the colours are gorgeous too. In my opinion, she should definitely be introduced to the public.

Beautiful is not good enough for this. I love the colors and the shading. The spirit doll has so much to share with those that will listen. It is a peaceful piece that makes me want to take deep breaths releasing the negativity of the day. I love it.
