......I didn't know this!!

Did you?

I was listening to the author of Addict to Plastic the other day on the radio and he started talking about the fact that there is a huge happening in the north Pacific Ocean called a gyre, a slow moving spiral of currents that create a vortex. And that in this gyre there is a toxic, plastic soup, with two 'islands of garbage floating there the size of Texas...It is the largest landfill in the world...floating in in our ocean. I did a little checking and there is information on the www but not as much as I thought there would be....the author said we used to have the catagories; animal, vegetable, and mineral....now we have animal, vegetable, mineral, and plastic!!!

This is a link to the blog..... living plastic free ~ year 3 Maybe we can all do a little bit more...but I have to say when I look around at my environment there is plastic everywhere, The idea of trying to find replacements for everything plastic I use in my life seems daunting if not impossible.... It is mind blowing to think that every piece of plastic that exists is here FOREVER! Can you imagine what will happen if we don't find a way to stop the growth of this toxic soup?!!

Ugh.

I don't even like thinking about this. But of course we must.

Thank you for making me think.

Yes this is horrendous! It is looking like this will take some serious commitment on our parts to make a difference. Thanks for bringing this to light.

it is hard sometimes to not feel overwhelmed from the massive task of correcting our neglect and lack of respect for this world we share...but we must let this task inspire us to greater things and love not greater apathy and 'business as usual'.

thank you Julie for keeping the fire lit.

Hi Lady,
Thanks for coming by...I know the subject is a bummer. I listen to free speech radio, they talk about things that never make the evening news but should and I often go on a news strike because it can be so overwhelming...but I think if we each talk to one person about trash and plastic and then take action, and they take action and talk to one person...we can make a difference...What's amazing to me is that things like this are so under-reported..It's one of the many 'elephants in the room'. Hug, hug...
